Fox Farm Soil or God’s Nectar?

The Indoor Earthworm's most popular goods are Nectar for the Gods and FoxFarm media. Both of these "mediums" are designed to provide your plants with the nutrients they require to thrive in pots, raised beds, or hydroponically, indoors or outdoors. Both companies replace peat moss and perlite in their blends with coir fiber (the fibrous husks of the inner shell of the coconut). This combination of components is long-lasting and helps the soil retain needed water while allowing for aeration, resulting in fast root extension required for denser, thicker plants. Growers of high-value crops value both brands.

This blog will evaluate the goods of the two firms to assist you in determining which brand and blend is best for your personal needs. If you have any further questions concerning either company's soils, plant feeds, and nutrients, or any of our other goods, please contact the professional team at Indoor Earthworm.

Soil FoxFarm

FoxFarm has been producing soil and nutrients that are not depleted of bacteria that are important to healthy plants in Humboldt County, California, since 1984. In the FoxFarm greenhouse, all ten of their soil blends are tested to ensure quality and consistency. From seedlings to fruits to beautiful hanging baskets, there are blends for every sort of growing scenario.

FoxFarm's Original Planting Mix, as well as the famous Ocean Forest Potting Soil, are the exceptions to the norm because they do not include coconut coir. In addition to the peat moss, each of these mixes contains seasoned forest products and earthworm castings. There's also bat guano, fish emulsion, and crab meal in Ocean Forest Potting Soil.

Nectar for the Gods

For almost 20 years, Oregon's Only has been producing Nectar for the Gods in tiny four cubic yard quantities in Springfield, Oregon. Oregon rainwater collected from roof overflow is utilized to clean the coir fiber, making it a unique element in their four various mixes. Rainwater is softer and somewhat acidic, and it enriches the soil with nitrates, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and salt. The soil is buffered with limestone to adjust the pH since the excessive salt level is harmful to the plants.

Currently, two additional varieties of Nectar for the Gods soilless medium are available to supplement the basic blend and meet the needs of various plants. Blend #2 includes perlite, yucca flour, basalt, and mycorrhizal fungus and is intended for hydroponic usage or direct planting. This combination is safe for daily feedings. Blend #7 is a coir fiber with a neutral pH.  On-site, I slowly hydrated and washed with Oregon rainwater to remove any salts.  It is intended for hydroponic usage or direct planting.

Blend #4 of Nectar for the Gods

Blend #4 is the most popular, containing sphagnum peat moss from Lithuania, perlite, pumice, kelp meal, bone meal, diatomaceous earth, clay, basalt, oyster shell (for pH adjustment), humus, and lime (for pH adjustment). It can take up to 30 days for an item to be activated, composted, and dormant. When extra feedings are required, this conventional potting soil is appropriate for both indoor and outdoor usage. Blend #4 was created by Nectar for the Gods in response to irregularities in mass-produced and low-quality soils.

The God's Nectar Blend #8

Blend #8 of Nectar for the Gods is Blend #4 with perlite accounting for 55% of the mixture for enhanced drainage and lighter soil.

The most interchangeable soils are the most frequent mixes for each company, FoxFarm's Ocean Forest blend and Nectar for the Gods' #4. Both are all-purpose blends that are particularly popular among professional gardeners who grow high-yielding, high-value crops.

It is critical to test the pH of any soil blend you select at various stages of plant development, as new nutrients may need to be added or the plant may need to be moved into a different soil.
